Mission

The mission of the 2007 Youth Day Program is to using the Kingian Principles of Non-Violence and Non-Violent Social Change to resolving teen problems as well as Black and Latino/Mexican relations

Objectives

To create an environment of non-violent problem solving among Black and Latino middle and high school students.

  1. To increase intercultural interaction among Metropolitan Atlanta area Black and Latino Youth.

  2. To supplement the Atlanta Public Schools Joseph E. Lowery Lecture Series with dynamic youth developed programming.

  3. To identify methods and strategies for youth to create non-violent social change.

To increase awareness of teen issues and create analytical and emotional understanding of how and why these issues occur.

Goal: To prepare for the day and initiate respectful and fun dialogue among participants

Play on Youth Issues – The AVID program at Therrell High School will perform a play devoted to the teen issues and the King Principles and Steps of Nonviolence.

Goal: To utilize cultural programming that provokes thought and discussion

Breakout Group Discussion on Issues of Violence, Intolerance, and Peer Pressure.

College Student Leaders

      Goal: To provide testimony and analysis on issues develop resources and strategies for non-
                violent conflict resolution
